Needle Roller Bearings are classified as either radial or thrust with cylindrical rollers. They are used with and without an inner ring. One further version, Needle Roller Assembly is used as rolling element without inner and outer ring. The needle rollers are guided parallel to the axis using a cage retainer, thrust bearings can also be supplied with no retainer, which is referred to as a full complement of rollers.
Needle roller bearings include drawn cup and solid radial bearings, as well as application-specific cam followers, and roller followers. Drawn cup needle roller bearings have a deep thin walled outer ring with open or closed ends, which are directly used on the shaft.Thrust bearings include thrust needle bearings.
Advantages:
● More compact, highly rigid and superior in load carrying performance, compared with other types of bearings.
● Eminently suitable for bearing arrangements where radial space is limited and useful in making machinery smaller and lighter.
● Excellent for carrying oscillating loads under severe condition.
● Interchange with sliding bearings.
Applications
.Needle bearings are heavily used in engine components such as rocker arm pivots, automobiles, motor cycles, electric machines, machine tools, aerospace.
Also used in miniature one-way clutches in the clutch mechanisms of office equipment, such as copying machines.
